Warszawa

March 12th, 2006 · No Comments

The legend says that two fishermen, Wars & Sawa, were doing their job at the Vistula river when suddenly a mermaid appeared just to tell them that THIS would be the right spot to found a city. And, by the way, this city would be undestroyable.
Well, it better was, since there are only few other cities that forcefully changed hands as often as Warszawa.
But it sticked around and I went there two weeks ago to visit my friend Johannes, together with Kristin, Kristian, Niko & Sarah.

Shanghai?
Warszawa Skyscrapers
Manhattan?
Warszawa
While the inner part of the city became almost undistinguishable from other big western financial centers, there are still architectural witnesses of the countries communistic past.

Warszawa is not exactly what one would call a “Vegetarian’s Paradise” - but eating out is really effortable for western european pocketbooks and we did our part to boost the local restaurant economy…
Johannes (who’s doing a semester abroad in Warszawa) did a great job in organizing the trip and balancing things out: Old vs. New, Meat vs. Vegetables (there is a single vegetarian restaurant in Warszawa), Museums vs. Bars etc..
I recommend Warszawa to everyone who is planning his or her holidays beyond the stamped out tourist trails - it’s an interesting, incosistent and still developing place that culturally IMO is going to get ahead of Berlin in less than 10 years. Let’s roll, Poland!
